Regional
Revitalization Initiatives - How to Enroll
Between
July
1, 2005 & July 1, 2006, Revitalization Institute
is enrolling 12 states, provinces,
islands, or regions around the world
in our Regional Revitalization Program. The design and implementation of each Regional Revitalization
Initiative is different, but the 3-step process of enrolling a region
is basically the same for each.
Here are the three necessary
steps:
-
We need a local partner: If
you have a trusted non-profit organization in your area that is
focused on economic development, smart growth, natural resource management,
sustainable development, rural redevelopment, or
environment/quality of life, etc., have them
contact us about joining
our Partner Network (there's
no cost to join);
-
Note: If the organization we
partner with plans to offer services using the Integrated
Revitalization tools, and receive money in return for these
services, then they would need to join our
Affiliate Network.
-
An MOU will be signed with that
partner organization: A Memorandum of Understanding will be
signed between Revitalization Institute and the partner
organization, which will formally declare our intention to
create a Regional Revitalization Initiative together. The
MOU also reserves your region's place among the initial twelve
regions we will enroll between July 1, 2005 and July 1, 2006.
A sample MOU can be emailed to you upon request. Again, no
payment is involved in the creation or signing of the MOU.
-
Choose a pace: You can choose
from three "speeds" for your regional revitalization, in terms
of the frequency of awareness-building, learning, and planning
events for your region. Twice-monthly, monthly,
and quarterly inputs are possible. Your choice will be
based on your budget and your need.
-
For instance, a large region
with dozens--or even hundreds--of communities will likely
require monthly--or even twice-monthly--events, in order to
gain momentum at a reasonable pace. Multiple
communities can (and often should) be combined for a single
event, so the number of communities in your region doesn't necessarily
equal the number of sessions needed.
-
If funds are tight--or if you
simply want to start cautiously--you can start and a slower
pace, and switch to a faster one when appropriate.
-
Note: We can do up to three
1-day Vision Workshops and 1-day Design Workshops in one visit,
if they are relatively close to each other. That way,
you could be on a quarterly program, but still bring up to a
dozen communities into the regional initiative.
Reduce your costs: Find a corporate
sponsor to underwrite all or part of your expenses. Design,
planning, development, or other professional service companies often
wish to contribute to the revitalization of their community or
region, provided a solid vision and strategy is in place. We
can help you recruit such a sponsor for your Regional Revitalization
Initiative. The sponsor does not need to be a member of our
Affiliate Network, but they
will need to be an Affiliate if they want to contribute
Guest Experts to the faculty of
the educational program.) There are two levels of sponsorship:
-
Program
Sponsor: Program Sponsors underwrite the entire cost of the
Regional revitalization Initiative, which primarily consists of
Vision Workshop,
Design Workshop, and
Strategy Workshop tuitions, plus
travel costs of the staff faculty and any
Guest Experts brought in from
non-profit and academic institutions. [Note: Sponsors would not
pay the travel expenses for any Guest Experts from for-profit
firms, which cover those costs themselves.]
-
Faculty
Sponsor: Faculty Sponsors only underwrite the travel costs
of the staff faculty and any Guest Experts brought in from
non-profit and academic institutions. That way, regions on tight
budgets know that their regional revitalization Initiative costs
will limited to workshop tuitions, plus the cost of training
facilities (which are usually available at little of no cost).
[Note: Sponsors would not pay the travel expenses for any Guest
Experts from for-profit firms, which cover those costs
themselves.]
